Criados en el árido ambiente urbano de San Diego, California, este grupo de música rapcore cuyo nombre significa "Payable On Death", fue formado en 1992 por Marcos (guitarrista) y Wuv (tambor). Sonny Sandoval, primo de Wuv, se unió mas tarde como vocalista al poco tiempo después de que la banda empezara a ganar reputación regional en los clubs de Punk locales, incluyendo el desaparecido Soma, donde acompañaban a bandas como Green Day, los Mighty Mighty Bosstones y Cypress Hill.
La banda, que ahora incluye al bajista Traa, creó su propia casa discográfica llamada Rescue Récords. Sus lanzamientos independientes como Snuff The Punk, Brown, y Live mostraron su alta agresiva fusión del Heavy Metal, Hardcore, y del Hip-Hop sin olvidar por supuesto su afición por un extremo del Cristianismo.
El éxito de Brown, que vendió mas de 30,0000 copias, le dio a la banda un contrato con Atlantic Récords en Agosto de 1998. Su debut con la disquera lo hicieron en Hollywood con el productor Howard Benson. De igual manera la banda encontró el tiempo para lanzar otro disco independiente llamado "The Warriors" antes que "The Fundamental Elements Of Southtown" apareciera en agosto de 1999.
La ferocidad de la banda cuando tocaban en vivo y la determinación espiritual a la hora de interpretar llevaron a la banda a estar en el Top 200 de las listas Billboard poco tiempo después al lanzamiento. Su segundo mayor sencillo, 2001's Satellite, fue aun más exitoso alcanzando disco de platino a las pocas semanas de haberlo sacado al mercado.
